We already have success stories of some of the babies we have taken. Despite their fragile state of being as babies, poor state of health, and desperation as orphans, they are great fighters for their lives.
Some of the children at the St. Ann's home
JoshuaWe have had cases of babies like Joshua, whose mother died on delivery due to HIV. Joshua was diagnosed with HIV too, but after several months of loving care, proper feeding and continued prayer Joshua has tested negative in august 2007.
TimothyWe visited Nakuru Provincial medical hospital in September. We were moved to tears at the condition in which we found some of the children. In particular we enquired about one whom we named Timothy, who seemed to be on his way to heaven. He had been born prematurely and his mother died after delivery. Timothy contacted meningitis and for several months he could not be treated because no body could take responsibility to buy the medicine required. The government hospital could only give Timothy part of the dose as and when it became available.
According to the doctor who spoke to us, meningitis treatment needs a dose to last 21 days but the hospital had to distribute whatever medicine it had among all those who are sick, so Timothy initially got a dose for only 10 days at a time and the treatment would stop only to re-start when other medicine become available. As a result timothy continued to wait, fighting for his live but sustained by the grace of God. He had lost so much weight and when we saw him he weigh 1kg and looked so ill.
We offered to take responsibility and buy the medicine for timothy for the full dose and the doctor reassured us that he would ensure that he has the full dose. We also offered to provide the formula milk during his course of treatment as opposed to the diluted cow milk that they gave to these babies. The full dose of timothy’s memegitis medicine only cost us (Ksh. 2000.00) two thousand Kenya shillings, which is only about (£15) fifteen pounds.
Timothy was released to us from the hospital after finishing treatment weighing 1.6kg. After two weeks of proper feeding and loving care in the home, when we took him back to the hospital for clinic, to the amazement of the doctors and nurses, he was weighing 2.8kgs. Timothy is doing very well, his story and destiny has changed.
We have so much faith and hope in our hearts that the sad stories of these babies will change and their destinies changed for the better.
If only ksh. 2000.00 can give back live to a baby, imagine what your contribution could mean to so many babies that continue to die in our Kenyan hospitals with no one to turn to. We can give them hope, love, care and a family atmosphere.
We would like to appeal to all Kenyan in the UK, in other parts of the world, the USA. Canada, Australia and the Diasporas, to come out, support us make a difference to the lives of these Kenyan babies.
We would like to appeal to Kenyan businessmen and women to support our Kenyan kids. We would like to see a lot of Kenyan businesses and their logos on our promotional leaflets and materials as sponsors.
We are confident that Kenyans abroad can do it, every little helps, pound by pound when changed into Kenya shilling it stretches…
We will make a difference for our country and our kids so let us arise and announce it to the world as we take care of our own orphans.
